Bonspiel Eligibility Requirements

Bonspiel participants must be aged 19+ and employed in the manufacture of Oil & Petro-Chemical Products, Energy Production and related industries, which include contract companies and suppliers of products or services to Oil & Petro-Chemical or Energy Production companies. Related industries are considered eligible if they provide a minimum of 60 % of their business to Oil & Petro-Chemical Industries or Energy Production Companies. The team Skip is responsible for his player’s eligibility when sending in the entry. Team changes to the entry require committee approval before the Bonspiel. Bonspiel participants do not have to be Sarnia-based. Annuitants and Pensioners meet eligibility if they receive a pension from the company requirements stated above. A “Grandfather” exception may apply; If a participant has been eligible a minimum of 10 years and loses that eligibility by changing careers, the Bonspiel Committee will have the final decision if he/she is eligible to curl under this Special Clause. Eligibility carry-over for one year applies in case of a career change and the above *Grandfather* exception does not apply. Co-Op students are eligible during an active Co-Op term. The Bonspiel Committee reviews all team entries and will contact the team Skip to confirm player’s eligibility. Any Bonspiel participant who feels someone is not eligible should contact any Committee member for clarification. If a team has an ineligible player they will be asked to substitute for an eligible player or withdraw from the Bonspiel. All teams, and individual curlers, are required to present themselves in a manner which maintains the integrity and conduct associated within the Sarnia Oil Chemical Bonspiel. The Committee will consider any offending team or individuals, and has the right to refuse future entry of the offending player(s).
